At her core however, she's kind, caring, loyal, and values her friends and relationships above all else.Hooks:

-Her Story-
Sylvas was born into a small, traditional Viera tribe in a remote village in the dense Golmore Jungle. She was one of near-countless siblings born to their mother, the tribes chieftain. Unsure of her place in the tribe and weary of their traditions, Sylvas fled home at the age of 20 to pursue a life of freedom or die trying. After nearly being taken by the jungle on her journey outward toward what she would soon learn to be the kingdom of Doma, she was rescued from almost certain death by an elderly Hyur man named Harald. The man kindly took her in for months and slowly nursed her back to health. When she was eventually back on her feet, he provided her a ferry ticket to the city of Kugane along with a small sum of gil to get her started. She was happy to accept the help, and promised she'd visit him every weekend to update him on her new life in the big city.
In Kugane, Sylvas got her first true taste of civilization. It was overwhelming at first, of course, she was very shy and had a difficult time socializing with the more civilized type. However, she soon gained her confidence and began learning the customs and traditions of the Doman people which made it a bit easier to blend into the chaos of the city. Eventually, she found herself working full-time at one of Kugane's famous onsens. She would visit Harald in his cottage as much as she could over the next few years and regale him of her tales of life in the big city. Being a hermit himself, he enjoyed Syl's company and her stories immensely. Though, as fate would have it, the elderly man eventually fell ill. Sylvas remained with him for weeks, ensuring his final days were that of peace and comfort. On his passing, Sylvas experienced her first true feeling of loss since she'd left home. A feeling she wouldn't soon forget.
Business back in Kugane at the onsen was getting competitive. Soon the owners began requiring their female employees to offer additional, more risqué services, else they were threatened with unemployment. Sylvas soon quit as the management and their decisions began to remind her much of life back in her village, she was a bit shocked to find this was common practice even in the more civilized areas of the world. She had lived and worked in Kugane for a decade, she came to feel that it was her first 'true' home. Though if she had left one, she could do it once more. With that, Sylvas packed her things and set her sights across the sea toward Eorzea. Little did she know what awaited her there...
-Occupations-
Atlas - Owner
♦ Goblin ♦ Empyrium ♦ Ward 8 ♦ Plot 38 ♦
After many moons working for others, Sylvas finally got the opportunity to start living out her dream, owning an establishment of her very own. Atlas is a fine-dining restaurant that specializes in seafood, a nod towards Syl's palate and personal morals for the only meat she consumes comes from the sea. Located in Ishgard, she felt it would be a risky but potentially profitable venture, bringing a taste of the sea to an area where that's perhaps a bit harder to come by. So far the business has been an astounding success, mostly due to her amazing supportive friends and employees as well as many affiliations with other businesses both local and abroad.

Her first place of employment since traveling to Eorzea, Sylvas has been working as a waitress at the Bee's Knees Speakeasy since May 2022. Initially mentored by her friend Astra Nebula, Sylvas quickly found her stride working at the Bee and has since become one of their most well-known employees. The Bee's Knees soon fell under the wing of the widely-renowned Zero Management company, owned by Jon Zero. ZM has recently opened two additional night clubs, SubZero and her other place of employment, Hypnotiq. Though the company is spreading wide across the realm of Eorzea's night clubs, the Bee will always by Syl's first love and home. If you're free on Wednesday evenings, be sure to stop in and say hello!
-Jobs-
Dancer
Soon after arriving in Kugane, Sylvas was enthralled by the performing arts. Festivals, parades, and shows frequently lined the streets of the city. This soon inspired her to take up the art of dance herself. She began with lessons when she was younger, and soon found herself joining a troupe that she would travel and perform with for nearly a decade. Though her time with the troupe lately has been limited, Sylvas will never give up her love for dance and performing.
Astrologian
Ever since she was a little girl, Sylvas always had a love and wonder for the cosmos. It wasn't until she'd opened her restaurant in Ishgard that she started becoming more familiar with the practice of Astrology itself. Learning a bit at first from the local Ishgardians, she soon found that she wanted to expand her knowledge on the subject and learn to wield the power of the cosmos themselves. Soon, Sylvas found an excellent opportunity to apply to the Studium in Sharlayan through a friend, and Astrology was her study of choice. She recently got accepted and is eagerly awaiting her coursework to start.
Reaper
An ongoing affair, Sylvas had an unfortunate run-in with a mysterious street peddler in Ul'dah that sold her what she soon realized was a cursed scythe. The weapon, being of ancient Garlean origin, is believed to belong to one of Garlemald's first 'reapers'. Wielding the weapon seemed to invite inside her whatever voidsent entity that had corrupted its original owner. She struggles with this ongoing affliction day in and day out, trying to make sense of it all and seek help where she can.

The Viera and the Void
Chapter 1: The Market
The markets of Ul’Dah were busy that day. Traders, peddlers, and common folk alike littered the streets as they went about their business. Looking up, one would see the baking hot sun barely shining through the bright-colored canopies drifting idly in the wind. The noise of shouting and mixed conversation made it easy to feel extremely small in a place like this, on a day like today.“So sorry I- I’m sorry!” Sylvas shouted back after accidentally bumping shoulders with a stranger. A tall highlander man, dirt on his face, and clad in worn armor turned back slightly, barely grunting a reply. Sylvas smiled in embarrassment, then turned and immediately almost tripped over a small crew of Lalafell merchants who were quickly darting between legs as they made their way through the crowd. “Gods I’ve got to get out of this crowd.” she said to herself as she quickly scanned the crowd for an opening. After finding a brief one, she clutched her grocery basket tight and danced through the crowd toward a little clearing near an alleyway.“Phew, okay.” Sylvas took a deep breath, then laughed at herself as she leaned back against the wall of the shaded alleyway. Her eyes peered into her grocery basket to make sure she hadn’t lost anything. “There’s the bread, coffee, tea, sugar…” she muttered to herself as her hand shifted the items around in the basket. She pulled a small shopping list from her pocket and examined it quickly. “Wow, that was really it? Hmm.” she said, a bit puzzled. “Could have sworn we needed something else…” She tapped her foot against the stone wall as she leaned on it a minute more, enjoying a rest, shade, and quiet on this hot day in the Ul’Dah markets.
She eventually found a place to sit, a little ways down the alley at some benches set up in a clearing near a baker’s shop. She sat down at an empty bench, pulled a small bar of chocolate from her pocket, and unwrapped just the top. It was a bit melted but not too much. “I know there was something else Farah wanted on this list…”. She talked to herself between bites, racking her brain about what her fiance told her before she left home earlier that morning. She shrugged, leaned back in her seat, and gazed lazily around the courtyard, daydreaming. The area wasn’t quite as busy as the main street, but there was still a decent bit of traffic. Sylvas enjoyed watching people. She enjoyed their different looks, the different clothes, the colors, the jewelry, the different styles, and all the rest of the magic that filled the streets. She smiled after finishing another bite of her chocolate, then rolled the wrapper up and placed it back in her jacket pocket. Probably not a good idea in that heat.Just as she looked back up she noticed a squad of soldiers clad in heavy, shiny lavender-colored armor stride into the courtyard, making their way quickly toward the alley on the other end. She admired their beauty as they passed. Each was a strong, tall, Elezan woman and almost each wielded a different weapon. The broadswords, spears, greataxes, and shields would glint in the light as they passed, adding an additional shimmer to match their polished platemail. As she watched them pass she would think, and wonder, and frustrate herself as she’d done so many times before. Sylvas had always been self-conscious about her fighting abilities. Sure, she grew up bowhunting for her tribe, but ever since moving into the civilized world she’d lost almost all of the fight she had when she was younger. A hundred self-loathing thoughts danced through her mind as her admiration for the Elezen warriors waned as quickly as they made their exit into the alleyway. She rested her head in her hands and let out a soft sigh. After a few moments of brooding, Sylvas seemed to perk up a bit. “I’ve got no reason not to. Just pick a weapon and practice with it, right? People do it all the time, almost everyone seems to do it, how hard can it be?” Unfortunately, she had a habit of talking herself up for things and not following through, she’d been putting this off for quite some time. For a while now, she’d been wanting to practice a bit more with some sort of martial weapon, something that would make her a bit stronger, a bit more confident, in different ways than her dancing could. She’d been getting especially nervous about the upcoming wedding and her future wife, what if she couldn’t protect her if the time came? “What’s my excuse, really?” she said with a bit more of a determined look on her face. With that, Sylvas rose to her feet, took the basket in-arm, and began to stride in what she thought was the direction of the armorers district.
Chapter 2: The Merchant
After taking a few wrong turns on her way to see an armorer, Sylvas began to get frustrated. It had gotten late, the sun was no longer beaming down through the canopies, it had begun to cool off as the tall buildings cast their dark shadows into the dirty streets below. Still, determination coursed through her as she picked up her pace a bit, desperate to at least look at a few weapons today, though she feared the shops would be all closed by the time she arrived. “Excuse me?” She got the attention of a heavily armored Roegadyn guard walking opposite her. “I’m looking for the armorer’s district, could you help me out a bit?” She seemed a bit embarrassed to be asking, but she worked up the courage nonetheless. The Roe answered her, though she couldn’t quite make out his words through his helmet, he turned his back and pointed in the direction she was already walking, then made a gesture to the left indicating a left turn was to be made at some point. “Thank you!” she chirped and kept heading her way with a bit more pep in her step. She walked for a little while more, passed a few alleys along her way though none seemed to really indicate a path toward the armorer’s district she was looking for. It was getting darker still, she was worried she wouldn’t make it home in time for dinner, and Farah may be getting worried. “Okay let’s try this one.” she muttered to herself as she made a left turn down a dark alley. “Just get to the end of the alley, if you don’t find anything we’ll try again tomorrow.” she continued to talk to herself as she made her way down the dusty streets, she frequently did this in an attempt to ease her mind. She was alone in this alley, as far as she could tell, save for one man making his way down lighting torch sconces as he went. As she went along, she considered turning back more and more with every step she made, she was beginning to get the creeps, but she carried on still. As the alleyway twisted a bit, she eventually saw a light about 50 yalms away, right in front of what looked to be a dead end. “What’s this now?” she whispered to herself. Clearly it wasn’t what she was looking for, but it spiked her curiosity. As she drew closer, she realized the flickering light was coming from the inside of a tent. She recognized these as they normally littered the streets of the market during the daytime, but tucked away in an alley like this? It seemed a bit strange. “H-hello?” she said, a bit of hesitation in her voice as she drew back one of the dark-purple tapestries that acted as a makeshift entryway. “Is anyone-” before she could finish her greeting was interrupted by an older, raspy voice hidden behind the flowing curtains. “Come in, come in!” said the voice, followed by a cough. “My first customer!”. First customer? She thought to herself, it seemed rather strange for a shop to be opening its doors at this hour, but she threw back the rest of the tapestry and she was immediately struck by the wares scattered about inside. As she entered the little mysterious little shop, she was first struck by the heavy smell of incense that filled the air. Her eyes then widened at the display of the various exotic trinkets, antiques, and charms that littered the shelves and tables scattered about the floor. She was overwhelmed, truly not knowing where to begin. Her eyes darted from one corner of the room to the next before the same voice began to speak once more. “What brings you to me tonight child?” The voice grew louder as an elderly Hyur woman threw back a tapestry that led to the back room and entered the main area. She was old and frail, ancient in fact, though she seemed to somehow be moving along just fine. Sylvas wondered what a woman of her age was doing with all of this stuff, how did she even set all of this up herself? “I uh- well I stumbled in on my way to the armorer’s district, I was hoping you maybe had a weapon of some sort.” As Sylvas spoke her eyes still shifted around the tent, trying to absorb as much as she could. “I don’t suppose you-” She was cut off once again by the crone. “A weapon?” she said with a bit more excitement in her voice, then coughed once more. “We have plenty of weapons dear, I’m sure you’ll find something that suits you.” Sylvas noticed the woman had a bit of a mischievous undertone to her voice as she was led by a gesture to the opposite end of the tent.As Sylvas made her way through the shop, she couldn’t help but stop and admire some of the wares a bit more closely along her way. She passed a bookshelf filled with ancient tomes and literature, a rack suspending a dozen or so shrunken heads, and a display case lined with various interestingly-cut gems with a smoke-filled crystal ball fixed on a display above it. She picked up the ball and began to shift it around in her hands curiously, trying to see if she could see anything inside. “Careful dear, unless you’d like to know how you die!” the crone would cackle at her own comment as Sylvas quickly put the crystal ball back with a worried look on her face. She decided to keep her mind on her mission and followed the old hag to the area where the weapons were. Another curtain was thrown back as she led Sylvas inside. While not quite as impressive with all the curiosities of the main room, Sylvas was greeted by a similar feeling as she entered the next. The weapons looked familiar, but not quite like any she’d seen before. The blades of the swords were black as night, there were ceremonial daggers imbued with gems on the hilts, not to mention all the strange-looking staves and canes laid out on a long table in the center of the room. She walked around for a moment, wondering which, if any, of these weapons she would maybe like to try out for her own. “So my dear.” The crone began to speak. “What kind of weapon are we looking for today?” After she spoke a wide grin began to spread across her face, Sylvas saw it out of the corner of her eye but decided to avert her gaze and instead focus on the wares laid about the room. “I uh- well I’m looking for something a bit… Bigger?” She said as she laid one of the ceremonial daggers back into its place. “Bigger you say? I may have just the thing.” The hag would make her way to a table and unfold a cloth, revealing a weapon the likes of which Sylvas had definitely not seen before.“Wh- what is it?” Sylvas inquired as she drew closer to the table, still unsure of what she was looking at. “This, my dear, is called a scythe. It was a weapon common centuries ago, though not many use them now.” she’d offer Sylvas the scythe with the same mischievous grin on her face. Sylvas took the weapon in-hand, it almost seemed like some sort of an axe with a blade that was disconnected from the shaft in a strange way. “Go on, give it a flick!” The crone mimicked a flicking motion with her arm, and Sylvas followed suit. As she did, the blade flung open, revealing the true nature of the weapon; it scared her a bit as she accidentally cut a corner off the tablecloth it was once resting on. “Oh gods I- I’m sorry!” she said, offering the scythe back to the crone. The woman put her hands up to stop Sylvas from quitting too quickly. “I think it suits you, dear… It truly is one of a kind.” She grinned once more. “You- you think so?” Sylvas replied as she examined the weapon more closely. It was crude, with wrappings around the shaft that seemed centuries old. “Truly, I do!” the crone cackled. “You’ll be sure to frighten any would-be wrongdoers away with this one.” She began to admire Sylvas and watch her examine the weapon. “Well uh, how much is it?” Sylvas asked, sounding a bit defeated as she palmed her pouch of gil, it was near-empty after her earlier shopping trip. “I want you to have it dear.” the crone replied, smiling still. “H-have it, like, for free?” Sylvas seemed puzzled, this sort of antique should have cost her a fortune, especially in the good condition it was still in. “For free!” the crone replied with a cackle. “Just promise me you’ll visit again, and let me know how it feels.” How it feels? Sylvas thought to herself, realizing she did indeed feel a bit… Different, perhaps? Different than she felt holding any other weapon she’d held before. Perhaps it was the excitement of the shop, maybe there was something in the incense drifting throughout the tent, or maybe still there was something about the weapon itself that gave her this feeling… Perhaps she truly had found the right one for her…“Okay I- I’ll be sure to take good care of it, I promise! And I’ll be back soon to let you know how my practice is going!” she smiled and returned the scythe to its normal resting position. “And one more thing!” the crone replied, turning to a wardrobe behind her. She flung open its doors to reveal a long leather-clad robe, its black and purple hues left Sylvas in awe. “What is this for?” Sylvas inquired as the crone took the robe off its hanger and offered it to her. “This belonged to the scythe’s original owner, I don’t believe they like to be too far apart.” she smiled as she handed over the robe. “Surely you must take something for all of this.” Sylvas struggled with her hands full to reach once more to her pouch of gil. Again, the crone denied with a motion of her hand. “Like I said dear, I think this suits you well. Besides, in my old age the need for gil waned long ago.” She gave Sylvas a reassuring nod. “O-okay well, thank you, again, truly! I’ll be sure to take good care of them both.” Sylvas smiled and threw the robe over her shoulders, it was a perfect fit. She struggled at first to clip the scythe to the straps on the back, but she finally managed. “You’ll get used to it in time, dear.” The crone smiled once more and gave Sylvas a little wave. Sylvas smiled and bowed in reply. She made her way back toward the entrance, grabbed her shopping basket she left nearby, and made her way outside of the tent. The smell of incense was quickly replaced by the familiar scent of the dirty streets of Ul’Dah, though she wasn’t bothered by it. She felt great, renewed almost, as if she’d recently spent a few hours relaxing in a spa. She smiled, and with a bit more pep in her step she strode toward the Aetherite plaza, toward home to be with her fiance. She couldn’t wait to show her what she’d found.
